Extra Geography

At an English girls' boarding school, Minna and Flic are inseparable, grappling with typical teenage concerns: friendship, romance, and, of course, school. Aiming for admission to prestigious Oxbridge, the two friends decide that good grades aren't enough—they need life experience. They devise an unconventional summer project: falling in love with the very first person they encounter. When that person turns out to be their unsuspecting geography teacher, they confidently throw themselves into the experiment; however, their carefully laid plan begins to crack as genuine romance, mutual rivalry, and a teenage need to prove themselves come into play. With razor-sharp dialogue and visual flair, the dryly comic coming-of-age film Extra Geography paints a relatable portrait of a close friendship and how it is put to the test by the realities of life.

Extra Geography marks the feature film debut of director Molly Manners and is based on Rose Tremain’s 2007 short story of the same name. The film premiered earlier this year at the Sundance Film Festival, where it was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize in the World Cinema Dramatic competition. Its screening at the Noordelijk Film Festival marks its Frisian premiere.
