A Certain Kind of Silence

Mia comes from the Czech Republic and starts working as an au pair for a wealthy Dutch family with Monic Hendrickx and Roeland Fernhout as the parents of Sebastian (Jacob Jutte). The only thing Mia knows, is that she will be taking care of the 10-year old boy. It soon becomes clear the couple has some disturbing rules in their household. If Mia adheres to the rules she will be richly rewarded. If she breaks a rule she must leave. Without realizing it, she enters a downwards spiral in which she abandons her own morality. She slowly disappears behind the rules and gets sucked into a world she only partially understands. This psychological drama is the debut of Czech director Hogenauer and an international co-production with the Netherlands and Latvia, where the film was shot. After the world première in Karlovy Vary, the film now has its Dutch première at the Northern Film Festival!
