The late composer, musician and director Jóhann Jóhannsson creates a world where transcendent monuments from the communist era in Yugoslavia claim their place, in a future where humanity is on the verge of extinction. The structures no longer symbolize unity and fraternity as they once did, but now look abandoned. Based on the book by philosopher Olaf Stapledon, the narrator (Tilda Swinton) paints a picture about the future civilizations that populate the earth. Last and First Men is a visual and musical masterpiece by Jóhannsson, who tragically passed away in 2018.
