The Old Oak

For fans of I, Daniel Blake and Sorry We Missed You, we have both good and bad news. The good news? Director Ken Loach sets another heartwarming gem of a drama with The Old Oak. The bad news, however, is that his latest film is also his last. A good reason not to want to miss out on this one.

The Old Oak is the last pub within a once lively mining community in the north-east of England. It is a meeting point for the village's sparse population, a place where they feel at home. Times are tough for pub owner TJ Ballantyne and his fellow villagers, and things become even more complicated when Syrian refugees are transferred to the village unannounced. Indeed, the closure of the mines has left many houses empty, yet the staid community struggles to accept the newcomers.
