Alma

What if you were kept in a psych ward for a crime you cannot remember you committed? With impressive imagery and sharp humour the Icelandic film noir “Alma” tells the intriguing story of a woman who goes through suffering, trauma, and grief. At only three years old, Alma had to witness the brutal murder of her own father. She and her mother had to flee their homeland that was hit by war to live in Iceland. And now, after 25 years, Alma finds herself kept imprisoned in a psychiatric institute for the murder of her boyfriend. She has no memory of killing him and soon finds out that the boyfriend is, in fact, still alive and breathing. That is when Alma decides to break out and kill him after all. This Icelandic nominee for the Nordic Council Film Prize shows a breath-taking and artistic revenge story that turns into a tale of love, growth, and healing.
