Downright turbulent, that is how you can describe the childhood of Marijke Huisman. From the age of three, she was placed out of home. The years that followed were a big jumble of foster homes, repatriation, more foster homes and moves throughout Friesland. Meanwhile, Marijke is 25 and she finds it time to look back. Not only for herself but also for all the other girls and boys who are going or have gone through the same. Ik ben ook iemand (I Am Also a Someone) is a poetic portrait in which Marijke examines her turbulent youth. In this stylistic documentary, 'the night' is the leitmotif and through the many residential locations of Marijke, she tells her story, which symbolizes that of so many. An honest and hopeful film supported by Marijke's poetry. Straight from the heart.

Bogdan is the charismatic leader of a volunteer organization in a Greek refugee camp. His NGO Samos Volunteers supports migrants with language lessons, education and a laundry service. Bogdan, who is of Romanian descent, arrived on Samos in 2016. His original plan was to stay for a few months but an offer from a foreigner allowed him to extend his stay. Three years later, he moved to Germany to live with his girlfriend. As Bogdan returns to the mainland, he realizes that his heart is split in two, between Samos and his new life. Groningen native Sam van Zoest, the creator of the documentary In The Right Place, met Bogdan in 2019 when he was volunteering. Bogdan made a big impression, and he decided to document his story.

This short film is the graduate work of filmmaker Vincent van den Ouden. Van den Ouden has created the film during the first edition of the Filmkick Academy of the Noordelijk Film Festival. Hopsa Heisasa is a magical realistic story about growing up and finding love and comfort in unlikely places. When the lonely Willem sings the Dutch song Hopsa, heisasa, he momentarily forgets the world around him. But one day, when he meets a drowned refugee girl called Isra, who doesn’t dare go to the afterlife without her lost teddy bear, Willem learns that Hopsa, heisasa is so much more than just a song.
