The Mover

Inspirational, biographical drama about the unlikely Latvian hero Žanis Lipke who helped to hide dozens of Jews from Riga during the Second World War. By day Žanis worked at the storage facility of the German Airforce. At night he was smuggling illegal goods. When Nazis began persecuting and killing Latvian Jews, he made a promise to himself, which could have proved lethal for both himself and his wife and son. He took more than fifty people to safety, literally form under the noses of German soldiers. He made a shelter for them under his own home. What was the secret behind Lipke's courage - was it his adventurous and daring spirit, stubbornness, or a sense of responsibility with regard to one's neighbour? Official Latvian Oscar-entry.
