The Match Factory Girl

The Match Factory Girl is a black comedy with a brilliant lead role by Kati Outinen, who plays the shy, young Iris. Iris is trapped in a hopeless situation. She still lives at home with her domineering, selfish parents and works behind the assembly line in a match factory. Things are not going well in her love life either. When she finally finds a man, she immediately gets pregnant, but the man in question wants nothing more to do with her. For Iris, it is time to take revenge.

For fans of Finnish director Aki Kaurismäki, this film is an absolute must-(re-)watch. Kaurismäki was already well on the way of his flourishing career in 1990 and impressed the international film world with the directing, writing, editing and production work of The Match Factory Girl.
