The Great Silence

A young nun's plan to join a convent is disrupted at the last minute by an old family secret. As Alma (played by Kristine Kujath Thorp, known for Sick of Myself and Ninjababy which were shown at earlier editions of the Northern Film Festival) prepares to take her perpetual vows, her half-brother Erik suddenly turns up. He is a recovering alcoholic that comes to collect his share of their inheritance, which Alma has already donated to the convent. Her brother's return to Alma's life confronts her with a past she thought she could leave behind, but she now has to confront.

With her directorial debut, Danish film maker Katrine Brocks ventures into this family drama, which vulnerably and empathetically portrays both monastic life and the protagonists' unprocessed trauma.
