Driving Mum

This dark comedic road movie introduces you to Iceland in a very unconventional way. You step in the car with Jon, his dog Bresnef and Jon’s dead mother. After years of living with his mother in a very isolated place, he faces a persistent sense of disappointment, regret and loneliness. Only a small boat that crosses the fjord every few weeks connects Jon and his mother to the outside world. His mother's last wish, however, is to be buried in her home village, on the other side of the country. So when she dies, there is only one thing for Jon to do: get in his car, on the boat, across Iceland - with his dead mother in the back seat.

Director Hilmar Oddsson hits the nail on the head with the black-and-white setting; it emphasises the majestic landscape of the vast island.
