The Color of Pomegranates

A breathtaking fusion of poetry, ethnography, and cinema. This masterwork overflows with unforgettable images and sounds. In a series of tableaux that blend the tactile with the abstract, the film revives the splendors of Armenian culture through the story of the eighteenth-century troubadour Sayat-Nova (master of song). His intellectual, artistic and spiritual development is uniquely charted through iconic compositions, dreams and references to the richness of Georgian and Armenian traditions. The film differed from the dominating social-realism at the time and the film was banned. With the help of Martin Scorsesses' The Film Foundation, this classic was restored and digitalized and is once again available for the big screen!
