Squaring the Circle: The Story of Hipgnosis
The first feature-length documentary (in distinctive black-and-white) by Dutch photographer and filmmaker Anton Corbijn tells the story of Storm Thorgerson and Aubrey 'Po' Powell, the creative geniuses behind the design studio Hipgnosis. Hipgnosis was founded in Cambridge in the late 1960s and reached its peak in the 1970s. Indeed, back then it was not the record companies but Storm and Po who decided what album covers should look like for acts such as Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin and Paul McCartney. With their iconic surrealist album covers - think: a glowing cow, flying pig and man in burning suit - the pair left an indelible mark on 1970s pop culture.
The documentary features interviews with some of the music industry's biggest names, including Roger Waters, David Gilmour and Nick Mason of Pink Floyd, Jimmy Page and Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin, Paul McCartney, Peter Gabriel, Noel Gallagher and many more.
