Sigur Rós: Heima

This documentary may be a bit older (2007) but it fits exactly with this year's theme of the Northern Film Festival: home. In Heima (the Icelandic word for home), world-famous band Sigur Rós aim to pay tribute to their homeland. Filmmaker Dean DeBlois follows them on their journey across the island, seeking out unusual, not so obvious locations for their small-scale concerts, which then bring the images together as a musical symphony. With this film, the band made an almost personification-like portrait of a country that is living, breathing, fighting and singing.

To get fully into the Icelandic mood before seeing this documentary, put on Sigur Rós' album Hvarf/Heim at home, which the band released in support of the film.
