Brave New Love

The 46th edition of the Noordelijk Film Festival opens with the Dutch premiere of Brave New Love by Maria Bäck. After the official opening there will be a party in the foyer of Stadsschouwburg De Harmonie. With music by DJ Trouvano (Wout Mulder, Relate Radio), who, as his name (after 'trouvaille') suggests, loves to accidentally discover beauty - in music as well as in people that share his passion.
In Brave New Love we follow hypnotherapist Kate — happily married to Orla and a role model to her daughter. In secret, however, she leads a double life. As she sits at the kitchen table with her family, her mind drifts off to the archaeologist Andreas, with whom she has shared a romantic relationship for years. When Andreas suddenly leaves for Greece, a delicate balance is disrupted, forcing Kate to face reality. Brave New Love is an exploration of motherhood, womanhood, lust, and shame that uses delightfully relatable Scandinavian humor to break taboos, asking the question: who makes the rules when it comes to love?
Comedic drama Brave New Love is the second feature film by Swedish-Danish director Maria Bäck. The film premiered this summer in the main competition at the Locarno Film Festival, where it was nominated for the Golden Leopard for Best Film. The screening at the Noordelijk Film Festival marks its Dutch premiere. Actor Anders Danielsen Lie can also be seen at the festival in Everybody Digs Bill Evans and Low Expectations. Director Maria Bäck and lead actor Simon Sears (Orla) will be present as guests on opening night. They will also attend the Thursday afternoon screening for an extensive post-screening Q&A (in English).
