Le sommet des dieux

A young Japanese reporter named Fukamachi encounters the mysterious mountaineer Habu Jôji in Kathmandu, holding what he believes is a familiar small Kodak camera: this camera accompanied George Mallory and Andrew Irvine in 1924 in their attempt to be the first to reach the top of Mount Everest, a mission from which they never returned. While Fukamachi tries to find out through Habu whether Mallory and Irvine have actually reached the top, he is drawn into a world of obsessive mountaineers with a lust for conquest, a world that also brings himself ever closer to the top.
