Grýlu Sker: An Icelandic Ghost Story
Grýlu Sker: An Icelandic Ghost Story
A shipwrecked explorer washes ashore on a desolate island ruled by the bloodthirsty witch Grýla: an island where curiosity is far from appreciated. What starts as a confrontation with superstition turns into a grim fight for survival. This unique short horror film breathes new life into an ancient Icelandic folktale using fantastic Bunraku puppets, rotoscoping, and stop-motion, with puppetry serving as the ultimate metaphor for the human struggle to get a grip on life. Grýlu Sker: An Icelandic Ghost Story is a visually stunning short film that combines handcrafted cinema with the magic of folklore and the intimacy of by-the-fire ghost stories.
Grýlu Sker: An Icelandic Ghost Story is director Kevin McTurk's fourth short film and has screened at festivals such as FrightFest in London. The film will be screened directly following the Spotlight Talk with Icelandic screenwriter, author, and poet Sjón, who co-wrote the story, produced the short film, and is the Spotlight Guest at this year's Noordelijk Film Festival.
There are no separate tickets available for this short film, because the screening is part of the Spotlight Talk and will be screened in the same room after the Talk.
