A documentary film about an ice-skating club, a village and the warm winters. In the film, we follow Oringers, the inhabitants of Odoorn, through the winter. The Oringers all experience a longing for ice (IJswee) in their own way. Christmas tree farmer Manus thinks that we will never be able to skate again and that winters will disappear. Treasurer Henk reminisces about the days of 15 centimetres of ice. Yet they also feel hope. Ex-farmer and ex-chairman Jans is confident that there will one day be another Elfstedentocht. His grandson Jeroen, who became a Drents skate champion as a child, is sure that he will stand on the ice as board member in the near future. Every autumn the ice club starts preparing for the freezing season, but why spend so much time preparing for an ice season that is uncertain to come?
Prince’s Day started early this year in Leons, Friesland. At sunrise Peter Oosterhof, a farmer from Drenthe on Frisian soil and Welmoed Deinum, a farmer from Sondel, pronounced the Speech from the Throne (Grondrede). They indicate what is going on with 'die grûn, le sol, the soil, turang' and explain what kind of magical game is going on under our feet. It is a beautiful organism, but we treat it too roughly. In this short documentary Kening, an alliance for a living landscape voices the earth through a text by Tjeerd Bisschof and Marcia de Graaff. Trumpet, didgeridoo, dance and games express the feeling that soil must have by now: that of a forgotten lover.
