Omschrijving

When Karin enters the house of her uncle Markku after his passing, she enters his secret world. For thirty-four years, Markku worked behind closed doors on a gigantic archive of paintings, pieces of music, texts, film recordings and audio fragments. Her uncle was once her upstairs neighbor and a creative hero in her youth, but disappeared from her life when he chose a solitary existence in another city. In Days of Wonder, a special dialogue is created between the two and, with the help of intriguing archive footage and intimate memories, Karin Pennanen brings her uncle back to life in a certain way. The result is an inspiring documentary that leaves a deep impression, but that is also a poetic tribute to a Finnish free spirit who opted for uncompromising creativity.

Days of Wonder is the documentary debut of director Karin Pennanen and premiered last year at the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival, where it received the award for Best Film. It also won prizes in Helsinki and Tampere. The screening at the Northern Film Festival is in collaboration with the Frisian Film & Audio Archive and will be preceded by a short archival film and an introduction by FFAA coordinator Jurjen Enzing.

Director Karin Pennanen will be present remotely for a Q&A after the film.
