Earth Song

Forty-year-old Rojîn lives with her Kurdish family in Helsinki, where she works as a hospital anesthesiologist, alleviating others' pain on a daily basis. Yet, she carries her own pain in silence. She and her husband, Ferhat, have grown apart, her relationship with her daughter, Azad, is strained, and to make matters worse, her father, Nîzam, unexpectedly shows up on her doorstep. A painful confrontation ensues as long-hidden family secrets come to light; twelve-year-old Azad is unaware that she is adopted, while Rojîn herself does not know the full details of her own origins. With a stunning color palette, *Earth Song* portrays uprooting and intergenerational trauma, touching the heart and demonstrating that confronting the past is sometimes the only path to reconciliation.

Earth Song premiered earlier this year in the IFFR’s Harbour program and was also selected for the 39th Helsinki International Film Festival. It is director Erol Mintaş’s second feature film, following the award-winning Song of My Mother (2014). Actor Feyyaz Duman plays the lead role in both films.
