Eden

Set in one of the picturesque archipelago of Helsinki, Eden is a coming-of-age story about a Protestant Confirmation camp on a summer’s week, told through the eyes of four youths who are torn between ideology, independence and falling in love. Aliisa is the intellectually confident non-believer, Jenna is the queen bee and Panu is the scared bird. The experience of these teenagers is affected by Tiina, a young and eager priest. Eden is a film about group identities and about conforming to the values of others. The characters are forced to redefine their relationship with their community and with themselves. The questions they face are quite universal: where do I belong? Do I want to belong there? And do I need the sense of belonging? Beautiful feature debut by Ulla Heikkilä, who based the story on her own memories.
