The Quiet Beekeeper

The rustic village of Åmotfors lies in the Swedish region of Värmland, close to the Norwegian border. Amidst the buzzing of beehives, beekeeper Olof leads a quiet life—much like the generations before him—yet beneath the surface of this ordinary rural existence, he harbors a profound secret. Olof is seriously ill, a fact his fourteen-year-old daughter, Lise, knows nothing about. Both long for connection, but a stubborn silence widens the rift between the headstrong father and daughter, leaving them to grapple with a shared grief in isolation. Through exquisite cinematography, The Quiet Beekeeper dissects the fragility of human relationships against the backdrop of a sultry Scandinavian summer, illustrating how trauma, secrets, and habits can imperceptibly seep from one generation to the next.

The Quiet Beekeeper is the third feature film by director Marcus Carlsson. It opened the 49th Göteborg Film Festival earlier this year, where it won two Dragon Awards and received nominations for four other prizes. Its screening at the Noordelijk Film Festival marks the Dutch premiere.
