Wekker

When the antisocial Gjaltema and his barking Belgian shepherd come to live next door to Dieuwke and Johan, peace and quiet come to an end. The dog's constant barking disturbs Dieuwke's sleep and her dream of making it as a professional breakdancer. A conversation with Gjaltema ends in a death threat. Dieuwke wants to take matters into her own hands, but insomnia clouds her thinking and the situation becomes increasingly hopeless. When Johan collapses, Dieuwke is left to fend for herself. Determined, she does everything she can to silence the dog for good. '
Wekker is inspired by the Frisian-language short story In frou moat harsels rêde by Sipke de Schiffart. The filming of Wekker, directed by Halbe-Piter Claus, involved intensive collaboration with students from Firda and NHL Stenden. The film is an initiative of Wy binne mbû, in collaboration with Practoraat Frysk and Meartaligens, and produced by Omrop Fryslân. The screening at the Noordelijk Film Festival is a premiere, attended by the cast and crew, and will be concluded with a festive reception.
