Tasty

Every year, the Noordelijk Film Festival invites you to the popular special event Film & Food. The evening will be introduced by a programmer and a cook, after which you'll enjoy a film ánd food. This year we will taste Lithuanian cuisine, along with the film Tasty.
In this feelgood film by director Eglė Vertelytė, best friends Ona and Saulė long for something better than their jobs as cooks in a colourless canteen. When they sign up for a popular TV cooking show, fibbing a little about their experience, they miraculously end up in the competition and, totally unprepared, take on the country's best chefs. The grand prize? Their own restaurant.
Against all odds, Ona and Saulė manage to surprise the jury and the audience with their simple dishes, but behind the scenes, there is plenty of manipulation going on. In the tasty glitter world of television and haute cuisine, the competition becomes increasingly exciting and an unexpected romance puts the friendship between Ona and Saulė to the test. A humorous ode to friendship, peppered with sharp observations and a fresh take on the world of cooking shows.
The charming film Tasty premiered at the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival. Director Eglė Vertelytė also wrote the screenplay. For her debut Miracle (2017), also a comedy, Vertelytė received no fewer than five awards at the Lithuanian Film Awards in 2018.
Café het Glas in Lood in Deventer is not just any bar. With over fifty beers and over 400 board games it's already quite special. Add in Benji from Lithuania and her husband as the owners and the mix is complete. Benji runs the kitchen and has managed to reach both the Dutch and the Lithuanians in the Netherlands with her food. The bar has traditional Lithuanian meals and snacks on the menu; like home made Cepelinai (home ade potato dumploings), pickle soup and Kepta Duona (a delicious fried bread snack). The Lithuanian kitchen is well known for it's savoury dishes, soups, the use of farmer products and pickling for the long and cold winter.
Apart from the Film & Food programme, Tasty will screen two more times during the festival: on Friday afternoon and on Sunday night.
