The years when I didn’t film

In this film block, the filmmakers capture memories and emotions that might otherwise fade away. Through recollections, rituals, and objects, they explore themes such as love, loss, and impermanence.
Met huid en haar – Jasper van Leeningen
In the documentary Met huid en haar, pet owners share why they choose to have their beloved animals preserved through taxidermy, rather than buried or cremated after death. They speak about the comfort and happiness their pets brought them, and the roles these animals played in their lives. Each owner has a personal reason for wanting to keep their pet physically present. The film closely follows the detailed process of taxidermy: from measuring limbs, skinning, cleaning, and tanning the hide, to the moment the taxidermist rebuilds the animal’s body like a sculptor. Using foam and clay, the skeleton is reassembled and the skin is carefully refitted. Once complete, the owners return to collect their preserved companions and bring them home once more.
Blau – Antonia Rehnen
Blau reflects on the confrontational experience of loneliness, where nature and the aesthetic beauty and depth of a single color offer solace.
The years when I didn’t film – Froukje van Wengerden
A cinematic essay exploring the chaotic perception of time. Through intimate letter exchanges, still photographs of her birthplace, and archival footage, the filmmaker expresses the transformative journey of motherhood.
Those who write, know – Sibirch Wijnia
Why do we write in notebooks? What kinds of stories are hidden in the notes we never share? Three makers open their notebooks to us, revealing intimate glimpses into their inner worlds.
