Afterwar

On the streets of Pristina, children sell cigarettes and peanuts while the traces of the war in Kosovo are still fresh. Ten years later, we meet the children again. Now they are grown up, but the traumas of the past have continued to haunt them. In a cinematic report, shot over fifteen years, we follow four survivors trying to come to terms with the aftermath of the war. Their words - sometimes scripted, but infused with genuine emotion - confront us with the lasting scars of conflict and being caught between past and future. 

Director Birgitte Stærmose mixes raw realism with poetic reflection, blurring the line between documentary and fiction. Through the eyes of Xhevahire, Gëzim, Shpresim and Besnik, we see not only their coming of age, but also their resilience, despite a future that is anything but certain.
