Gondola

In Gondola, German director Veit Helmer takes us to the majestic mountains of Georgia, where a simple cable car is the lifeline between two remote mountain towns across a valley. Young Iva returns to her native village and is given the task of operating the gondola as a conductress. As one gondola ascends and the other descends, Iva and her colleague Nina, who drives the other cabin, meet halfway each time. What begins as a fleeting greeting grows into a playful and hilarious flirtation.

Helmer, known for his surreal style in which little to no speech is used, weaves a charming fairy tale centred on visual humour and unique characters. The film exudes a dreamy atmosphere, with a Wes Anderson-like wink. Gondola is a light-hearted and heartwarming feel-good film that will leave you with a smile.
