Leningrad Cowboys Go America
Old-school Kaurismäki at it’s best the Northern Film Festival! Leningrad Cowboys go America (1989) is a mildly mockumentary film, which briefly puts the clichéd image that Europeans still have of America through its paces. Somewhere in the Finnish tundra, in the middle of nowhere, lives the worst rock 'n roll band in the world: The Leningrad Cowboys. A group with no audience and absolutely no commercial potential. They decide to kiss their national identity goodbye and go to the United States, the country where people tolerate everything.
This film tells the story of their journey across the ocean and across the continent, a story that leads past drab pubs and honest people in the slums of the Land of Hamburgers. Ugly actors, a good feeling. Yeah!
