Tove’s Room
It is 1963, in the middle of the rise of women's liberation movement. Within the four walls of her Copenhagen flat, Tove Ditlevsen is fighting another battle; the one against her manipulative husband Victor. One of the most acclaimed female authors of her generation, Tove's writing gives a voice to oppressed women. Her talent is undeniable, but Victor's destructive jealousy knows no boundaries. That his wife is more influential and widely praised is unpalatable to the sadistic editor-in-chief. Just when their struggle reaches a climax, their lunch guest arrives at the door; the promising young author Klaus Rifbierg, whom admires Tove immensely. The situation is portrayed in this compelling chamber play. Actors Paprika Steen (Tove), Lars Brygmann (Victor) and Joachim Fjelstrup (Klaus) make you feel the tragedy, anger and discomfort of one of Denmark's great writers through the canvas.
The screening on Saturday November 11 will be introduced (in Dutch) by Lammie Post-Oostenbrink, translator of the works of Tove Ditlevsen.
