12-year-old Georgie lives alone in her London flat after her mother's death. To get money, and to pass the lonely days, she spends her time stealing bikes, along with her friend Ali. With pre-recorded voice memos, she manages to convince unwary authorities that she is being taken care of by her non-existing uncle. This makeshift lifestyle changes when her estranged father Jason (Harris Dickinson, Triangle of Sadness) suddenly shows up on her doorstep. Slowly, the pair form an endearing bond as Georgie learns to deal with grief and trust.
It is almost unbelievable that this is the directorial debut of British filmmaker Charlotte Regan. Equally impressive is the acting of newcomer Lola Campbell, who plays the role of Georgie. Scrapper is a playful and dreamy film that will hit you right in the heart.
