Amal, twelve years old and completely alone, flees the war in Syria and is forced to surrender herself to human trafficker Sam. Why Sam wants to help her, Amal doesn't quite understand, but travelling alone as a young girl and being easy prey for women trafficking organisations is not an option. Sam turns out to be the only one who can save her from the horrors of war and human trafficking, and Amal is the one who can use her imagination to break through Sam's cynicism and help him make peace with his past.
Because of the way Swedish director Abbe Hassan has pieced together the scenes, a harrowing reality shines throughout the film: Sam and Amal's individual stories are not unrealistic. Indeed, the film kicks off with the news that more than a million people are seeking asylum. Therefore, the dark undertones in this road movie cannot be missed.
