Lamb

An unexpected discovery turns the lives of María and Ingvar around. The couple has not been blessed with a child, but when they find a mysterious newborn in the sheep barn of their remote Icelandic farm, the hope of a happy family life and parenthood fills them with joy. But their newfound happiness will not last forever: is their decision one against nature? With beautiful scenic imagery and the strong performance of Noomi Rapace as María, Valdimir Jóhannsson’s debut film builds an anticipating tension. Shifting between sadness and moments that are creepy or almost comical moments, he tells a unique story in a dark and twisted way.

Contemporary folk horror film Lamb premiered at the 74th Cannes Film Festival in 2021, where it won the originality award, and it was the Icelandic Oscar entry for best international film that year. Screenwriter and novelist Sjón, who wrote the script together with director Valdimir Jóhannsson, is this year's Spotlight guest at the Noordelijk Film Festival. During the Spotlight Talk on Saturday he will talk extensively about his work, and several of his films will be screened during the festival.

Sjón will be present at the screening of Lamb for a Q&A afterwards (in English).
