Filmconcert: The Adventures of Prince Achmed

Paper-cut shadow figures bring the tales from One Thousand and One Nights to life in this German animated film. Musician Steven Kamperman’s ensemble provides an immersive soundtrack for this silent film, breathing new life into a century-old classic.
Film Lecture: Norse Mythology in Film

Norse mythology has been highly influential throughout history and continues to inspire writers, artists, and filmmakers. Tolkien drew inspiration from Norse mythology for his immensely popular Lord of the Rings. Sometimes these influences operate in the background, distilled into narrative motifs woven into new stories; at other times, there are direct references to the mythical characters themselves. Join us on a journey through a wondrous world of monsters and heroes, exploring films and series such as Game of Thrones, Lord of the Rings, The 13th Warrior, Harry Potter, The Ritual, and Valhalla Rising.
Spotlight Talk: Sjón

In conversation with Sjón about film, writing, and his work. In this talk, we speak with the internationally renowned Icelandic writer and screenwriter Sjón about the various films and works he has created over the years. Sjón co-wrote The Northman with director Robert Eggers, as well as Lamb—which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and made the shortlist for the Oscar for Best International Feature Film. He was also nominated for an Academy Award for his lyrics for Lars von Trier’s Dancer in the Dark.

Want to stay alive and have a laugh? Then come to the latest show by Shetland comedian Marjolein Robertson, featuring magical creatures and folktales. Expect the very best of Marjolein as she weaves stand-up and folklore into an evening filled with magic, jokes, and hidden meanings.
Marjolein was a finalist for Channel 4’s Sean Lock Comedy Award and the BBC New Comedy Awards. She was also shortlisted for the prestigious Sir Billy Connolly Spirit of Glasgow Award.
How to Read a Film? The Incomer
