The Incredible Snow Woman

She braved the ice fields of Greenland on her own, camped on an ice floe and fought a bear single-handedly, but returning to her native village may be the greatest challenge yet for 46-year-old explorer Coline Morel. After losing her job, ending her 18-year relationship and facing health issues, her carefully constructed life falls apart. 

Unexpectedly, she returns to the Jura, where she comes face to face with her brothers and first love for the first time in years. Behind her dry humour and unpredictable behaviour, however, Coline hides a secret that she shares with no one, but which forces her to choose how she wants to spend the rest of her life. The Incredible Snow Woman combines tragicomic family scenes with vast polar landscapes and philosophical reflections on life and mortality. The result is a quirky film that lightly explores what it means to say goodbye and to continue searching for freedom until the very end.

Director Sébastien Betbeder has already been featured twice at the IFFR with the short films La vie lointaine (2009) and Yoshido (Les autres vies) (2010). The Incredible Snow Woman premiered earlier this year in the Panorama section of the 75th Berlinale and can be seen for the first time in the Netherlands at the Northern Film Festival.
