100 Liters of Gold

Taina and Pirkko, two very headstrong middle-aged sisters, live in a village in southern Finland. For their younger sister's wedding, they promise to deliver a hundred liters of their famous home-brewed sahti: a traditional Finnish beer known as liquid gold. 

The brewing process takes weeks, but they manage to pull it off. Unfortunately, the sahti tastes so good that the sisters drink the entire supply themselves two days before the wedding. In a hilarious race against time, they do everything they can to deliver the gold and maintain their reputation as the best beer brewers in the village — all while suffering from a massive hangover.

100 Liters of Gold by director Teemu Nikki is a typical Finnish comedy, which premiered last year at the Rome Film Festival, was then shown at the Toronto International Film Festival, among others, and became a real box office hit in Finland. While it was initially supposed to be about two brothers, after seeing a play starring Pirjo Lonka and Elina Knihtilä, Nikki knew it had to be two sisters: he had found his drunken muses.
