The Last Paradise on Earth

The Last Paradise on Earth
This visually stunning drama by Sakaris Stórá takes you to the remote Faroe Islands. We follow Kári, a quiet romantic who cherishes the simple life and tries to keep his family together after his mum passes away.
While he and his sister mourn in silence and his friends dream of leaving, Kári is determined to stay on the island — the place he considers “the last paradise on earth”. However, his tenacity is put to the test when the local fish factory, the economic lifeline of the community, is threatened with closure due to the depletion of the sea. The Last Paradise on Earth is a calm and honest portrait of a young man who, despite radical changes and the depopulation of his beloved home, tries to face every challenge head on.
The Last Paradise on Earth is the second feature film by director Sakaris Stórá and the acting debut of Bjørg B. Egholm, who plays the role of Silja. The film had its world premiere at the Gothenburg Film Festival earlier this year and was screened at the Scandinavian Film Festival and the Norwegian International Film Festival in Haugesund. Its official nomination for the 2025 Nordic Council Film Prize marks the first nomination of a Faroese feature film ever. The screening at the Northern Film Festival (language: Faroer, subtitles in English) will be the Dutch premiere.
Marjun Niclasen, Head of the Faroese Film Institute, will be present at the screening on Thursday for an introductory Q&A.
