Drømmer
In the Norwegian coming-of-age film Drømmer (Dreams), 17-year-old Johanne experiences her first all-consuming infatuation — with her French teacher.
To get a grip on her intense feelings, she writes everything down in detail, which she eventually shares in confidence with her grandmother. When Johanne's mother sees her writings, she is initially shocked. But this turns into admiration for Johanne's writing talent, and her intimate words prompt both adult women to engage in self-reflection.
Old loves, missed opportunities and the question of what love really is come to the surface. As Johanne's world fluctuates between desire and reality, the boundaries between truth and imagination blur. What really happened? And should Johanne's words be shared with the rest of the world? Drømmer is a warm film about self-discovery, sexuality and how first love takes on a different face with each generation.
Films by director-writer Dag Johan Haugerud have previously been shown at the Noordelijk Film Festival, including Barn (2019) and the film Sex (2024), which was screened at the festival last year. Sex was the first film in Haugerud's “Oslo trilogy”, each part of which stands on its own; so you can watch the films in any order. Love (2025) was released in cinemas last summer and Drømmer, which was the first Norwegian film to win the Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival, will be released in November. The Noordelijk Film Festival has a wonderful first: we are the only festival in the Netherlands to screen the complete trilogy Sex, Love and Drømmer.
On Saturday evening, we will be screening Drømmer for the third time, in collaboration with Queer Factory (with introduction).
On Thursday, Yngve Saether, producer of Sex, Love, and Drømmmer, will be present for a Q&A after the film.
