Serie: The Danish Woman

Ditte Jensen (Trine Dyrholm) has left the Danish secret service and moved into a flat in an apartment complex in Reykjavík. Although she planned to live anonymously and devote herself to gardening, Ditte cannot suppress her deep-rooted combativeness: she remains an elite soldier and a warrior.

With a combination of selfishness and an overwhelming sense of justice, she solves her own problems and unsolicitedly helps her neighbours with theirs. No one is safe from Ditte's unconventional and sometimes aggressive methods of correcting the morals of Icelandic society. For example, she believes that every Icelander should speak Danish; after all, it was a Danish colony. And do you know what chemicals you are leaving in the soil for your children when you wash your car with that special soap? The Danish Woman is an eccentric, witty and sharp series that plays with the tense Danish-Icelandic history, while confronting the viewer with the seductive idea of standing up for yourself without shame. Trine Dyrholm was our guest of honour last year and can also be seen this year in Jeanette Nordahl's Beginnings (2025) and Zinnini Elkington's Second Victims (2025).

The Danish Woman consists of six 47-minute episodes, which are shown back-to-back for a delightful binge-watch, including lunch and breaks. The series is part of the Spotlight Retrospective of director Benedikt Erlingsson, who is attending the Northern Film Festival as a guest of honour. Erlingsson will personally introduce the series, which will be screened for the first time in the Benelux at the festival.
