Step into the magical world of Amélie!

Closing event of the 45th edition of the Noordelijk Film Festival

We will conclude our 45th edition with a festive special event: a screening of the timeless classic Amélie on the big screen, accompanied live by Yann Tiersen’s magical soundtrack, performed by the James Whale Orchestra. Tickets will be on sale from September 24, 2025 at 12:00h via this page.

Amélie was the opening film of the Noordelijk Film Festival in 2001 and is returning this year with a spectacular live performance by the James Whale Orchestra. After a series of sold-out film concerts, the 23-piece chamber orchestra is coming to the north for the first time for a live performance of Yann Tiersen’s renowned soundtrack.

The French classic Le Fabuleux Destin d’Amélie Poulain, better known as Amélie, follows the quirky Amélie Poulain (played by Audrey Tautou) in the Parisian district of Montmartre. Home-schooled and isolated, but with a rich imagination, Amélie finds her way to adulthood. Life is simple for the now 23-year-old waitress at the eccentric Café des 2 Moulins, but when she discovers a metal box behind a baseboard in her bathroom, Amélie’s life changes. Fascinated, she embarks on a quest to find the owner of the box and, in the meantime, makes it her goal to do as much good as possible for her fellow human beings. Director Jean-Pierre Jeunet paints a romantic portrait of loneliness, wonder, and the happiness that lies in the smallest moments.

The romantic comedy drew full houses worldwide and was awarded BAFTAs, Césars, and five Oscar nominations.

It is also possible to purchase a ticket with a Cineville pass.
