Vlam

Olivia (Sophie Lindner) and her mother (Thekla Reuten) have a turbulent relationship: intense, unpredictable, but inseparable. After a heated confrontation, Olivia is removed from her home and ends up in emergency shelter. There she encounters other young people who, like her, are carrying their wounds, and gradually this new living situation changes her perspective. Every time she goes home, she sees how her mother is not a typical parent, but a capricious, destructive influence - a friend you'd rather not have. Olivia faces an impossible choice: let herself be swallowed up or finally break free. 

Vlam is the feature film debut of Groningen-based director Daphne Lucker and was screened this spring in the Official Youth Competition at the BUFF International Film Festival in Malmö and in the Dutch Focus Competition at Movies That Matter.
