In a bleak industrial town, where hope seems worlds away, 13-year-old Maria crosses paths with the fiery Kristina. This encounter leads her to the world of a local modeling school, where the promise of a better life pushes the girls further and further. What starts as a dream to escape their grey existence, culminates in a rapidly growing lake of self-loathing and self-harm. The girls are drawn into a relentless pursuit of beauty and success, pushing their bodies and minds to the limit. 

With Toxic, Lithuanian director Marija Bliuvaitė delivers a raw and captivating coming-of-age story, exploring the human body as a project, currency, and source of both pain and power. Their friendship and identities are tested as the pressure builds, leaving them to question how far they are willing to go. Toxic won the prestigious Grand Jury Prize at the Locarno Film Festival, captivating audiences with its haunting portrayal of youthful ambition.
