Tina Farifteh: Toen ik de zon en de maan tegelijk zag
Iranian-Dutch artist Tina Farifteh created the installation Toen ik de zon en de maan tegelijk zag as part of BredaPhoto. The work has now been purchased by the Fries Museum and will be on display from May in the exhibition of the same name in Leeuwarden.
The installation, which combines video and light art, is the first part of Tina in Sexbierum, a transmedia project about displacement, detachment, the longing for a home, and at the same time the inability to feel at home in a society that constantly rejects you existentially. In the work, Farifteh asks herself and the visitor the question: 'If society does not offer a home, is there perhaps room for displaced persons in the landscape?'
Tina Farifteh studied at Erasmus University (Rotterdam) and the Royal Academy of Art (The Hague). Her graduation project, The Flood, an audiovisual installation about media coverage of refugees, won her several awards. NRC newspaper named her one of the rising stars in the cultural field. She also made a name for herself with her documentary Kitten or Refugee?, in which she explores our capacity for empathy and its limits. The documentary was selected for the Debut Competition of the Netherlands Film Festival and won first prize for Storytelling at De Zilveren Camera.
The project is produced by journalism production agency Prospektor. The installation was created in collaboration with Studio Boris Acket. A museum version has been developed especially for the Fries Museum, acquired with the support of the Province of Fryslân.
