A Sámi Wedding – afl 6-8

Weddings are never just about the bride and groom... In this sharp and hilarious series, the ceremony is just the tip of the iceberg. A Sámi Wedding is set in Kautokeino, in northern Norway, and revolves around Garen (Sara Margrethe Oskal), a weary middle-aged woman and eldest of four siblings. She is stuck in a burnt-out marriage and finds herself at the bottom of the village's social ladder. When her son Aino announces that he is going to marry the daughter of a prominent reindeer herding family, Garen sees an opportunity to show all of Kautokeino that she is worth more than everyone thinks.
In just one month, Garen will organize the perfect wedding for 3,000 guests, complete with all the traditions that go with it. Unfortunately, her brothers and sister, who will have to help her on all fronts, are a lot less ambitious. Brother Henry, who took on an English name after fleeing to the United States, is lured back to help, but only his friend is truly enthusiastic. To make matters worse, Garen's old arch-enemy, the groom's future mother-in-law, seems determined to highlight all of Garen's shortcomings.
With the infectious, chaotic energy of Shameless and the charming messiness of My Big Fat Greek Wedding, directors Åse Kathrin Vuolab and Pål Jackman create an ensemble piece full of biting humor and sharp cultural insight. The dysfunctional family is flawed, loud, loving, and unforgettable. Instead of easy sentimentality, A Sámi Wedding offers a raw, funny, and honest portrait of intergenerational care, cultural expectations, and the big mess we call family.
A Sámi Wedding consists of eight 28-minute episodes, which can be binge-watched in one sitting, including (dinner) breaks.
