On Filmmaking in Regional Languages: NPLD-Coppieters x NoFF-Campus

On Thursday and Friday mornings, Plugzaal in Post-Plaza will be dedicated to a multifaceted exploration of the European landscape for films in minority languages and the existing (or much-needed) regional infrastructures for a healthy film climate.

On Thursday, researchers from the University of Groningen will take you through the impact that film can have on representation and local economies. In addition, the Frysk Film Fûns will introduce you to the filmmakers and projects that were selected in the recent second round, and panel discussions will delve further into European regulations and successful initiatives for promoting regional film culture, from Limburg to Ireland and Sardinia to Faroer.

Friday will be devoted to the “state of the industry”: where do we stand, what is already being made, and is it finding its way to the public? During candid panel discussions on industry, financing, distribution and audience, European streaming platforms, film funds and regional policymakers will be put to the test. A handful of filmmakers (from Fryslân, Ireland and Spain, among others) whose films are featured in the Memmetaal film programme at the festival will also be joining us.

This fee does not apply to guests invited by the NPLD or by the Coppieters Foundation, and that any amount collected will go exclusively to the Noordelijk Film Festival, and in no case to the NPLD or the Coppieters Foundation.
