Officiële opening – Kneecap

On Wednesday, November 13th, we'll kick off the 44th edition of the Northern Film Festival with a festive evening, complete with a DJ performance by Jellyfish! But that's not all—before the opening film, we’ll present the Award for Special Contribution to Northern Cinema to our special guest, Trine Dyrholm, who will accept the honor in person. Throughout the festival, a Spotlight Retrospective will celebrate Dyrholm’s impressive career, featuring her two latest films alongside four of her earlier works. At the festival she will also host a Spotlight Talk talking about her career and achievements.

This year's opening film of the Northern Film Festival is one that rocks! Kneecap is your not-so-average musical biopic, about the eponymous rap group that has been rocking (Northern) Ireland since 2017. This raw, uncompromising film shows the trio at their purest; in fact, alongside more experienced actors (such as Michael Fassbender and Josie Walker), the artists play themselves. Their feature debut, written and directed by Rich Peppiat, is a fiercely original hiphop biopic full of creativity and humour. No wonder Kneecap was the winner of the Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival.

Kneecap will be screened three times at the Noordelijk Film Festival as a regular film. Wednesday, November 13 at 20:30, Saturday, November 16 at 16:30, and Sunday, November 17 at 19:45.
