My Father’s Daughter
In the remote Sámi village of Unjárga, located in Norway’s far north, Elvira, a headstrong teenager, struggles with her sense of identity and belonging. Raised by her single mother, she clings to the fantasy that her absent father is none other than Danish actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, famed for his role in Game of Thrones. But as her mother introduces her new girlfriend, Elvira’s belief in her imagined ancestry becomes her only escape from the small-town life she resents. The truth, however, is far from what she imagined—her real father is a recently released Norwegian convict.
In My Fathers' Daughter, director Egil Pedersen crafts a humorous and poignant exploration of identity and family ties. With a standout performance by Sarah Olaussen Eira as Elvira, this Norwegian coming-of-age drama blends humor with the serious challenges of finding one’s place in the world. A bold debut filled with emotional nuance and youthful rebellion.
