Mr. K

A magical journey begins in this inventive film by Norwegian (but Amsterdam-based) director Tallulah H Schwab. Mr. K follows the hapless magician K, played by the unforgettable Crispin Glover, who finds himself in an enchanted hotel full of bizarre guests and mysterious circumstances. When he discovers he cannot find the exit of the hotel he has spent a night in, it is the starting point of a Kafkaesque nightmare. The harder he tries to leave the building, the deeper he gets caught up in the intrigues of the hotel and its wonderful guests and residents.

The story is further made up by a colourful cast, including the iconic Fionnula Flanagan, who complements the allure of the hotel. Glover's performance is nothing short of brilliant, expressing Mr K's struggle with patience and resilience even as the situation takes increasingly absurd turns. The film's visual style, with influences from Jean-Pierre Jeunet and Stanley Kubrick's visceral tension, makes Mr. K an unforgettable experience that you should definitely see. This film is rightfully a part of the festival's program line 'Nederlands Eigenzinnig'.
