Like Tears in Rain

Five years after Rutger Hauer's passing, his goddaughter Sanna Fabery de Jonge offers an intimate portrayal of the legendary Dutch acto, who spent most of his life in the Frisian town of Beetsterzwaag. Like Tears in Rain uses never-before-seen private footage to reveal a personal side to Hauer, who always maintained a strong sense of freedom and adventure. While Rutger Hauer starred in over 200 films, among which Turkish Delight (1973), Soldier of Orange (1977) and Blade Runner (1982), his private life remained private. 

This documentary, crafted with love by Fabery de Jonge, shows a lesser-known Rugter Hauer: a soft-spoken, yet fiercely independent man who embraced life alongside his great love, his wife Ineke Hauer-Ten Cate. Featuring heartfelt testimonials from close friends and (inter) national stars such as Paul Verhoeven, Monique van de Ven, Whoopi Goldberg and Mickey Roarke, Like Tears in Rain is a moving homage. Supported by a beautifully composed soundtrack from Matthijs Kieboom and the director's personal perspective, this documentary offers a unique insight to an icon of Dutch cinema.
