Film & Food: Como agua para chocolata
As part of the Film & Food programma of the Northern Film Festival, you are invited to enjoy Como agua para chocolata - a sensory film that is simply finger-licking good. The film will be introduced by Anton Felipa, film and food lover extraordinare, whose two passions will undoutedly reflect the passion with which the main character experiences her impossible love.
In Alfonso Arau's heartwarming Mexican classic Like Water for Chocolate (Como agua para chocolata, 1992), romance intertwines with culinary magic. Based on Laura Esquivel's bestseller of the same name, the film tells the story of Tita, a young woman whose emotions manifest themselves in the dishes she prepares. Her
forbidden love for Pedro, and the family obligations that hold her back, set in motion a chain of events in which food and feelings are closely linked. A visual and sensory treat, the film won several awards, including the Ariel Award for Best Film. This romantic drama with a magical-realist twist is a timeless classic that manages to stir the heart as well as the stomach.
For this edition of Film & Food we work together with restaurant Roast. Though we cannot give any spoilers, we can promise you that the dinner will be finger-licking good.
Note: when you buy a ticket for this programme, you pay for the film and the food. Drinks are to be paid for seperately after the screening and are not included in the price.
