Against the Tide

Fishermen Rakesh and Ganesh are children of the sea. The sea gave them identity, provided them food and on her lap their brotherhood fostered. They are Kolis, the indigenous fisherfolk of Mumbai. But the loving tolerant mother they have always known is changing before their eyes; the sea is getting warmer and emptier. For the friends, who depend on the catch, this not only threatens their livelihoods but also their friendship. This is because they both think differently about how to deal with the influences of a deteriorating climate. It leads to a conflict that drives them both in different directions.

Against the Tide is a documentary about the undulating lives of these two young men, which weaves a story about the eternity and fragility of brotherhood, love and a beautiful natural world being crushed under the looming effects of climate change.
