Sex

In the Norwegian film Sex, director Dag Johan Haugerud takes an intimate look at two heterosexual chimney sweeps who begin to question their familiar lives and sexuality. When one of them reveals that he has had a spontaneous sexual experience with a man, the unexpected confession triggers a series of candid conversations about desire, identity and the social norms that govern their lives.
Without actually depicting sex on screen, this Norwegian drama tackles themes such as gender and pigeonholing with a healthy dose of humour. The result is a layered film with sharp dialogue about friendship, masculinity and daring to question everything that seems self-evident.
Films by director-writer Dag Johan Haugerud have previously been screened at the Northern Film Festival, including Barn (2019). Sex premiered at the Berlin Film Festival in 2024 as the first film in Haugerud's “Oslo trilogy” and was also screened at the Northern Film Festival last year. Love (Kjærlighet) was released in cinemas last summer and Drømmer (Dreams), which won the Golden Bear at the Berlinale in February, will be released in November. Each part of the trilogy stands on its own, so you can watch the films in any order. Sex returns to the Northern Film Festival programme this year for a magnificent premiere: we are the only festival in the Netherlands to screen the complete trilogy Sex, Love and Drømmer.
Prior to the screening, Yngve Saether, producer of Sex, Love, and Drømmmer, will introduce the film.
